We’ve kept a secret. There have been BIG changes happening this year at Push PR. As an agency, we pride ourselves on working alongside global leading experts. Which is why we’re delighted to introduce our new Head of Beauty, Fitness & Wellbeing Ali Taylor. To get to know Ali a little more and her incredible career, we sat down for quick interview in the Push showroom …
Tell us a bit more about your professional background
I have worked within the beauty industry for 20 years and feel incredibly blessed to have worked with many inspiring and dynamic female leaders, inspirational colleagues and brand founders during this time and to have tried so many fantastic products! My career agency side and then in-house to the Estée Lauder Companies, where I spent 10 years working on some of the most famous and loved beauty brands. After taking a little time out when my eldest child started school, I seized the opportunity to work for FeelUnique, a young and dynamic business. After my third child was born, I knew I wanted to continue to work within the industry, but felt the time was right to move into consultancy and launched Bewt Comms. I learned so much as a business owner. However, I missed working and leading a team. Fate (and Instagram) brought Emma and I together and the dream of working together was born.
Favourite beauty brands?
So many! Nars, Tom Ford Beauty, Slow Ageing, Elf, Liz Earle, Diptyque, Sculpted by Aimee, Patchology
Three beauty products that you could not live without?
Concealer – specifically the Elf Camo Concealer. A Charlotte Tilbury Face Palette that I LOVE so much and that has since been discontinued. I think the This Is Mothership girls share my passion and are trying to encourage the brand to bring it back! It has 3 eyeshadows, a blush, highlighter and bronzer. It’s simple to use and with not much time to get ready, it’s a dream product. I love a cleansing balm too – taking my makeup off is a mini ritual for me at the end of the day. My current fave is the Crabtree & Evelyn Evelyn Rose Cleansing Balm – it’s scent is divine!
What do you most look for when purchasing a beauty product?
I like a hardworking product that delivers results – be that a foundation with staying power, but with medium coverage and with radiance boosting properties. I am a mum of 3 with an hour-long commute so my beauty routine needs to be fast and efficient, and I love products that multi-task. With skincare I like results, but also enjoy a sensorial element – I love a face oil and a mask!
What are the biggest beauty trends to come for Christmas and 2022?
So much to cover here – I mean beauty advent calendars continue to deliver on the beauty front for Christmas, but I’m predicting that fragrance, beauty palettes and hair tools will be a big hit this year with (fingers crossed) the return of Christmas parties. I also think that gifting someone a me-moment or facilitating a moment of self-care, will be huge! Top of my Christmas list is The Higher Dose on the Go Infrared PEMF Mat.
Next year, I think we will see more brands talking to a Gen Z audience, in a fun, self-expressive, achievable, accessible way plus brands seeking to celebrate Nature in a way we have not seen before. Consumers will want brands to be more transparent about ingredients’ clinical efficacy and sustainability than ever before.
How has the industry changed from when you first started your career?
In so many ways! Social media, print and digital, online and in-store … the list goes on! When my career began, the focus was placed on established beauty companies and their portfolio of brands. Now founder-led and niche brands are leading the way in innovation and with a razor-sharp focus on the consumer. The industry is now more inclusive and attentive to the needs of the consumer in all their wonderful iterations!
Favourite social media platform and newspaper/mag to keep inspired?
I’m a beauty geek and I love reading about the industry. I skim Business of Fashion, WWD and Vogue Business daily. I love Red and continue to buy it monthly whilst I also get my style fix from Stella and my favourite Instagram influencers are @littlespree and @wearsmymoney. I love looking at what real women love in the world of beauty via @fiivebeauty. I also enjoy podcasts and favourites include How to Fail, The Emma Guns Show and Happy Place.
What are you most excited about at Push?
Where to start?! Working in close partnership with Emma and re-launching the Beauty, Fitness & Wellbeing division. We have some brilliant long-standing clients and are adding to our diverse portfolio with brands that have strong values, storytelling and NDP. It’s a hugely exciting time full of possibility and growth for the Push team. If the last 18 months have taught us anything, it’s the value of beauty to the economy and its’ universal ability to make us feel good.
