Meet Push's newest beauty and wellbeing client...

Push is thrilled to announce a new partnership with Myrtle & Maude; a brand passionate about bringing natural and organic ingredients to the table. Think handmade, carefully selected. Think remedies for pregnancy and general wellbeing. Basically, a delicious blend of tea that pleases the tummy and champions the ‘good life’. And we are hooked.

Here’s what brand founders, Julia D’Albert-Pusey and Matty Johnson, had to say when they came into the Push showroom to give us the full run-down on everything Myrtle & Maude.

1. Myrtle & Maude is a British start-up, steeped in family tradition, passionate about natural and organic ingredients. Tell us more about your grandparents and the influence they had on you both.

Both my grandparents and parents grew up in the New Forest which is renowned for having one of the largest remaining tracts of unenclosed pasture land, heath land and forest. I grew up with an allotment, eating chickpeas and cycling everywhere possible so there’s an inherent love of the natural world and what it has to offer.

We also had a Morris Minor so I was definitely brought up with a lifestyle that only hipster parents can only aspire too these days.

Matty’s family are originally from Ireland where they lived off the land reaping its benefits – there are still members of his family in their 90s cycling around the town! Working hard was instilled from a very young age and is something we both feel really strongly about.

2. What is it about your products that cater so well for mums-to-be?
Understanding that parents want good quality, trusted products with a unique sense of identity we made it our goal to create a range that did exactly that. We have dedicated our time to developing organic and natural products that perfectly comfort mums-to-be in those early months. We are hugely proud of our craft and the fact that we only source high quality ingredients.

3. Why is herbal tea such a tummy-settler and what makes your blend so unique?
Every tea bag has been preciously and carefully handcrafted to create a warming blend that settles the tummy, this includes ginger, vibrant peppermint and the uplifting scent of rose petal. Our pregnancy organic blend has been specifically formulated and regulated by our master herbalist. We source, grow and pick the best organic ingredients and create all our products in small batches using herbalist traditions.

Ginger and peppermint are the main ingredients in our specially formulated blend as both have a long history of use in Asian, Indian and Arabic herbal traditions. For example, in China ginger has been used to help digestion, treat stomach upset and nausea for over 2,000 years.

Here’s a little breakdown of some of the benefits seen from the ingredients we use:

Ginger – Soothes and helps alleviate stomach pain
Peppermint – Refreshing, soothing and improves digestion
Chamomile – De-stressing qualities, calms upset stomachs
Lemon balm – Reduces anxiety, eases pain and discomfort from indigestion
Rose petal – Immune system boost, improves digestion
Orange peel – Refreshing, energising, boosts immune system

4. Is there a (secret) hero ingredient?

There is no secret ingredient, however, the blend has been formulated by a top herbalist and balanced to perfection.

5. The organic beauty industry is huge, what is Myrtle & Maude’s point of difference?
Our mission is to support parents through those early days of pregnancy and beyond by supplying natural product that reassures and comforts.

We believe in attention to detail – taking inspiration from our heritage as well as real parents – and infuse our recipes with insightful little touch-points that make a difference. We provide handmade, unique blends created to evoke a feeling of wellbeing.

6. Wellbeing; another big buzzword. What does it mean to you?
Healthy, happy and comfortable.

Myrtle & Maude strives to improve the comfort of mums-to-be providing a preferred natural alternative.

7. Best bit of business advice passed down from your grandparents/parents?
No risk, no reward… and serious graft

8. How many cups of tea do you drink a day?
Matty loves a good builders brew, however, I stick to herbal teas. I love peppermint tea, decaffeinated green tea, ginger and lemon – and I have recently got into apple tea. I must drink two tea pots worth a day.

9. Who would you LOVE to sit down and have a pot of Myrtle & Maude with?
We are extremely busy with the business at the moment so spending quality time with our families is rare – so we would love to have a tea party with all the family.

10. What’s next in terms of product/ brand development?
We are currently working on more complementary and alternative medicine products, we want to offer high quality organic products that mums-to-be can enjoy in the exciting times of being pregnant.
