Sheet masks; the brands we’re repping for max results

#PushBEAUTYrecommends this Korean beauty trend

2017 is about the sheet mask, if you haven’t been doing them on the regular – who are you?

Here’s what Phoebe Allen, Push Beauty Account Exec, had to say about her first time masking up and the three brands she recommends trying on for size (and max soothing).

For the last six months my Instagram feed has have been full of people posting selfies of their faces covered in a thin white sheet with (slightly creepy) gaping holes for the eyes and mouth, and a little hood over the nose. People, not just the ladies, have been masking up in a big way.

Sheet face masks came up in conversation at work, and I had to admit to not having done one – despite knowing all about their existence. A couple days later my desk was stacked with different varieties to try, and so I obediently travelled home with three products to try.

If you’re not familiar with the story behind sheet masks let me bring you up to speed.  They are very common in Korea as Korean women take immense care over their skin and are known to spend hours on their morning and evening routines. This has transcended to the UK where we have discovered the wonders of both double cleansing and sheet masks, not to mention the power of super-cute packaging. The packaging doesn’t help the skin but who doesn’t want anything bearing a Panda on in their beauty cabinet?

Ok, so in no particular order here are a few brands I’m repping in the mask department…

The Eye Mask from 3INA

The skin around your eyes is very sensitive and doesn’t always take to products that are made for the rest of your face. I think it’s very important to use products that are developed specifically for the eye area (my favourite being the Kiehls’ Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado) so I thought I’d give a mask a go. 3INA’s Eye Mask is infused with gold extract and rose to boost radiance and help with regeneration. Totally works.

These mini masks come in a plastic case inside the packaging, meaning they were less slimy to handle and I like that they were coloured too. I kept them on for 15 minutes and then removed to find my eyes feeling uplifted and brighter. Definitely worth mixing into your morning beauty routine – if you have 15 minutes to spare that is. While the benefits (bright and glowy complexion) didn’t last a huge amount of time, this product is great to do ahead of a day/ evening when you want your look to say FRESH.

Sheet Mask Avocado from Oh K!

This is a Korean inspired brand that goes all out on the packaging. Usually I prefer a minimal aesthetic when it comes to packaging, but the beautiful design (and adorable panda) won me over. First impressions? OH MY GOD IT’S SO SLIMY.

I knew sheet masks were moist but I wasn’t expecting the product to be so wet. I couldn’t imagine what it was going to feel like on my face, but I was pleasantly surprised by the Avocado Sheet Mask by Oh K!.  It was cool, refreshing and genuinely felt like it was hydrating my skin. I did have to rearrange it a few times to try and get my eyes to fit the holes and not cover my nostrils, but I’m sure that was simply down to my inexperience using the product. Once removed I gently patted in the excess hydrating serum into my skin and I have to say I looked noticeably brighter the next day. Would I try it again? Yes, and potentially in another fragrance . Would I recommend? Yes.

Soothe & Calm Hydrogel Mask by Erno Laszlo

Iconic beauty brand Erno Laszlo was founded by the doctor who tended to the skin of Hollywood stars such as Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn, not to mention Jackie Kennedy. The New York based brand lives on with a range of bespoke skincare rituals and products. As a huge advocate of the Double Cleanse I thought I’d give the Soothing Mask a go.

This one was a little less slimy as it came with a plastic coat on each side that you could peel off before applying. After 10 minutes I removed the mask, patted in the excess and my skin did feel very soothed and hydrated, the perfect calming ritual before bed. The next morning my skin still had a subtle glow about it. Not something crazy noticeable, but it felt good, and that’s what matters.
