London-based jewellery brand Rachel Jackson London has teamed up with style icon, singer and mothers2mothers (m2m) Ambassador Sophie Ellis-Bextor to design and produce two exclusive pieces – a necklace and bracelet – entitled ‘Rising Phoenix’. The limited edition jewellery collection marks Day of The Girl 2020 campaign #ShesGotThePower.
“I am so excited about Rachel Jackson London’s new collection which spotlights mothers2mothers’ incredibly important work with girls and young women across sub-Saharan Africa. When Rachel and I discussed the design, with International Day of the Girl in mind, I couldn’t help but think of Maya Angelou’s poem ‘And still I rise’ and how the symbol of the phoenix so perfectly represents the resilience of women and girls who make up m2m. I know that by unleashing the power of young girls, we can create a more equal world for the next generation. Wear your phoenix piece with pride!” – Sophie Ellis-Bextor
As a mother to five boys, Sophie is hopeful that by raising five feminists, her children can grow up in a more gender equal world. Inspired by m2m’s powerful sisterhood of women – the nearly 1,700 Mentor Mothers employed by m2m as frontline health workers delivering lifesaving health services to communities across Africa – Sophie joined m2m as an official Ambassador in April this year.
There is no doubt that 2020 has been a year of pain and challenge for the world over. Now, more than ever, emblems of support, positivity and kindness become a way to connect with loved ones and champion messages of resilience and strength. Bringing together three forces who champion female empowerment, women’s rights and nurture support, Rachel Jackson London, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and mothers2mothers become a powerhouse for good. A staggering 100% of the proceeds from each piece sold will go directly to mothers2mothers, supporting the work of this incredible NGO and their #ShesGotThePower campaign. This campaign is a message of strength, goals and positive affirmation to ensure that every girl of today becomes the unstoppable female force of tomorrow. Never has there been a more poignant time.
Sophie and Rachel’s partnership was brought to life organically through a mutual appreciation for each other and a relationship which shares similar values and vision; passionate about the advancement of women’s rights and fair and equal representation to champion the ultimate Girl Power. Rachel Jackson London has historically woven this message in support of women & girls throughout the brand’s history. Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s ambassador role for mothers2mothers has seen Sophie further spread the message of this phenomenal NGO – one that is transforming healthcare and women’s empowerment by delivering health, hope and an HIV-free future across ten countries in sub-Saharan Africa through its female-centred model. mothers2mothers trains and employs women living with HIV as frontline health workers, m2m is breaking gender stereotypes and raising the voices of thousands of African women.
Emma France, Global Development and Strategic Engagement Director at mothers2mothers added: “We are so thrilled to partner with our friends at Rachel Jackson London and the wonderful Sophie Ellis-Bextor to celebrate International Day of the Girl in such an exciting way. At mothers2mothers, we want to create a world where every girl feels valued, and where every girl feels like she can rise up to become the woman she wants to be. By purchasing a pendant, customers can stand shoulder to shoulder with girls across sub-Saharan Africa and help amplify the message that girls are resilient. Join mothers2mothers to celebrate that, indeed, She’s Got The Power!”
