When dreaming of a tropical island paradise, your initial fantasies probably focus around lying on a beach, not breaking a sweat. But did you know Bali is a haven for the fitness fanatic, with everything from yoga, to CrossFit, to F45. Whether you’re looking to balance our your holiday treats, or keep up your fitness regime abroad, our Fitness and Wellness Account Manager Tori recently headed to Bali to embrace all the health, good vibes and sunshine that the country has to offer and bring you a review of the best fitness studios.
A boho tropical functional training studio located in Canggu, this light modern studio has classes for all including Strength, Cardio, Conditioning, Body Building, TRX and Boxing. They also have Happy Hour open gym sessions with personal trainers on hand. If you’re looking for a sweaty and effective workout in a beautiful studio with excellent instruction – this is definitely the studio for you.
Empire Fit Club
Located in the idyllic, remote setting of the rice paddies, Empire Fit Club provides ALL the panoramic views. With 400m worth of grounds, this studio is a fitness playground! They are the ONLY studio in Bali with a unique obstacle course class for any dare devils reading this. We recommend the 5.30pm classes so that you can catch that red sunset while you break a sweat. We tried their Signature Bootcamp class which is a 60 minute high-intensity workout combining resistance and cardio exercises. Expect rowers, assault bikes, push ups, devil presses, barbell work … the LOT. The trainers were very encouraging and supportive, with excellent instruction. A MUST visit.
As the largest and most equipped CrossFit gym in Bali, you can expect to meet some serious fitness fanatics here. This is the perfect location for anyone looking to meet likeminded people, but also to guarantee a great workout. We tried the CrossFit class which focuses on developing power and practicing functional movements. Despite what a gym full of intimidatingly muscular clientele might suggest, the classes are suitable for all levels. The classes were super informative, with great instruction, reducing risk of injury and making sure you leave having learnt something new or having improved existing skills.

The Yoga Barn
The Yoga Barn is THE place to go in the yoga paradise which is Ubud. The Yoga Barn is an epicenter of self-discovery, healing and renewal, perfect for anyone looking to shed the stresses of daily life and fully relax during their time away. The location has 7 studios and offers over 130 classes a week in yoga, meditation, dance, healing and wellness, Ayervedic Spa treatments and more! They also offer workshops, retreats and teacher trainigs. We took the Yin/Yang class, ideal for balancing energy, flexibility and strength by blending both styles of yoga into one practice. This 90 minute class incorporated sweaty poses and dynamic flows to work the muscles and blood flow through the body, with more relaxing stretching to work the connective tissues and joints. Another MUST try here is the Ecsatic Dance, a bringing together of bodies to dance, feel free and get out of their busy minds. This style of dance provides a feeling of freedom through physical expression, guided only by eclectic DJ’s and live music. No talking, no shoes, no alcohol, no phones … just freedom!
