Cannes 2018 red carpet beauty; we spoke to the nail artist behind Cate Blanchett’s look

Festival de Cannes is in full swing and if, like us, you’re obsessed with keeping tabs on the red carpet looks (the dresses, the hair, the beauty, ALL of it) then you’ll appreciate this interview.

We caught up with nail technician to the stars, Morena Sanguigni, of BTS Talent who is currently in Cannes creating looks for the likes of Cate could-she-be-more-beautiful Blanchett. Here’s what you need to know.

Talk us through the look you created for Cate Blanchett at Cannes
I recreated a super glossy, clean manicured look for Cate using nail enhancements that achieve a natural appearance and added longevity. Cate is president of the jury for Cannes so her schedule is extremely busy and all eyes are constantly on her; it was important to have something that would compliment every look and stay perfect for the duration of the festival – even up close!

What’s a typical work week like for you?
Early starts, checking emails, scrolling through social media, taking the kids to school – the list goes on.

Some days I’m based in my salon which involves training, creating nail looks and ordering stock – other days I’m preparing for photo-shoots or in location doing nails at TV studios or in hotel suites. I also do body art and embellishing on cruise liners or at festivals weekends in the summer (just for fun).

What are you currently working on?
Right now I’m designing crystal embellishing looks for body and nails.

Nail trends to know about?
Almond/ natural/ nude, negative space nails with sparkle, holographic or crystal detailing. It’s about minimal fuss, classic looks that nod to individuality.

What and/or who inspires you?
I’m inspired by attention to detail, perfectionism, creativity and people who really live life to the fullest. I am all for creative projects that work to make other people’s lives better.

Brands you rate and why?
I use ibd Nails Hard Gel and Harmony Prohesion Acrylic for extending nails, Kiara Sky gel polish for colour (especially shade shifting/heat-reactive colours) and I love Chanel’s gorgeous hand cream ‘La Creme Main’.
