NYFW – A roundup so far…

What better way to kick start London fashion week than by having a round up of New York Fashion Week! So we have kindly given you a run down of the week and our favourite outfits, designers and surprises!

Helmut Lang showed a dark collection in keeping with the grunge feel of leather leggings and laced black tops. He jazzed up his collection with some red and blue detailing but kept a tailoring feel with blazer jackets and A-line pleated skirts. It got our approval!

Everyone was talking about the Alexander Wang show on Saturday and we were no exception! He pulled out all the stops with a dark and somewhat confusing catwalk constructed with lots of mirrors and low lighting. The main focus of the catwalk however, was the fact he had all the super models you could ask for walking, Gisele, Shalom Harlow, Natasha Polly, ad Joan Smalls!

Wang’s collection focused on outwear with a string of coats in various designs from the raincoat to the trench. The collection had a ‘wet’ feel to it with a lot of the collection encapsulating a patent effect which was deemed as ‘lacquered’ according to the show-notes mentioned by Vogue. The collection was very tailored with high neck collars, straight legged trouser suits, pencil skirts and the ever classic shift dress.

Bold colours and creative prints ruled the runway at Diane Von Furstenberg. The midlength hem is here to stay for another season as the collection contained simple midi dresses with  bold print or eye catching detail. The collection was elegant with sharp tailoring and the casual turtleneck jumper thrown in. Oversized coats where the finishing touch to many outfits usually adding a bold statement of colour, like the mustard number below. We love the hand print dress, very striking and different!

Victoria Beckham showcased her A/W collection which stayed true to her style. Simple and sophisticated dresses that were below or just above the knee in striking reds with black detailing or dark grey and teal. The black detailing accentuated the female silhouette nicely making these a flattering dress that we are already coveting!

Victoria also tweeted a picture of her new handbags which are very sweetly named after her daughter, Harper.

Victoria’s show wasn’t just watched by us, husband David was sat front row next to Anna Wintour, coffee to hand! We wonder what they chatted about? Either way, it just shows how us Brits are taking over the American fashion scene! Wooo team Britain!

This however is merely a snippet. The fun isn’t over yet, there is still more of New York to come and then we get to jump right in to what London has to offer at the end of the week! We can’t wait! See you at Tom’s at Somerset House for a brownie and a much needed coffee!
